If you have had a difficult dental experience in the past we can help.
We describe our practice as ‘knowledge-based’ because we have always placed great emphasis on staying abreast of the latest developments in dentistry. Unusually for a general practice we devote one day a week to professional development. Richard reviews and evaluates hundreds of papers, lectures and cases each year in his capacity as a member of one of the Europe’s most highly respected dental studies group.
The practice has been located at 20 Harley Street since 1970. It was originally founded by Colin Hall-Dexter, who championed preventative dentistry in Britain, and was a leader in dental anaesthetics, adult orthodontics and implants.

Our focus is on your dental, oral and general health, as well as the visual appearance of your teeth.
We know that some patients find dental treatment challenging. If you have had a difficult experience in the past you will be reassured to hear that we have developed an innovative approach to patient care that has proved highly successful at minimising anxiety, stress and discomfort.
We are a family-friendly practice that offers a special, complimentary education programme for children and young adults.
We welcome unusual challenges, too. For example, we care for a young patient who, because of his severe Asperger’s syndrome, finds dental treatment particularly traumatic; and also look after a number of elderly, home-based patients.
Our practice offers a comprehensive range of treatments, including all aspects of preventive and cosmetic dentistry. Before we begin any treatment, we give you a detailed quotation that sets out the programme – in plain English – together with support information (such as x-rays) and a step-by-step explanation of what we will be doing, how long it will take and what it will cost. We’re happy for regular patients to spread some, or all, of the cost of treatment or, if you pay in advance, we will give you a 5% discount. Members of group schemes (minimum number four people) are eligible for extra savings. Please ask us for a quotation.
Q. I have had a difficult dental experience in the past. How can you help?
A. Many people have had difficult dental experiences in the past and, as a result, find treatment can be stressful. We are confident we can help. We use a number of innovative, and proven, solutions, from changing the treatment programme to the use of the latest pharmaceuticals. Some patients opt for a special anaesthetic, which means they effectively sleep through the treatment. Let us know if you are apprehensive about treatment; we can solve the problem.
Q. How can I straighten my teeth without unsightly braces?
A. If you want straight, evenly spaced teeth you no longer have to wear ugly, uncomfortable braces for anything between 12 and 36 months. Our unique system will transform your smile – painlessly and practically invisibly – in just six months. You may have inherited poorly aligned teeth, or been a thumb-sucker as a child, or had an accident. Whatever the reason, we will find a way of straightening them. We may achieve this with an aligner, porcelain veneers or invisible braces. If we decide that an aligner is the best approach for you, we will design it, make it and fit it. It will be made from smooth, almost invisible, plastic that you simply wear over your teeth. Most people won’t even notice it. We have a video on this topic.
Q. How do you recommend I whiten my teeth?
A. Teeth become discoloured for a wide range of reasons – genes, certain foods or drinks (particularly tea and coffee), tobacco, or simply from age. Many dentists, and others, offer tooth whitening, but you need to take care. Some of the harsh chemicals that are commonly used can harm teeth and gums, and make the teeth over-white. Our proven whitening system preserves the enamel of your teeth while returning them to a beautiful, natural white. First, we find out the cause, type and extent of the staining, then we devise a course of treatment. We are confident that you will be delighted with your new smile. We have a video on this topic.
